What is Blogging?

Okay so you’re reading this article, you probably heard about blogging recently and you now want to start your own blog and start making money from it.

In a nutshell, a blog is simply a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual(which is you) or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.

You must be wondering “how can I make money from that” well we are going to answer that for you later in this article in the meantime, why don’t you learn how to create one! Just know that there are multiple ways you can earn income from your blog, some bloggers even make six-figure annual revenue from their blogs.

There’s a lot of speculation that a blog is a get-rich-quick money scheme. Unfortunately, that’s not true, it takes a lot of time before your blog can start making income, and it all depends on multiple factors, and that is what our blog is all about, helping you along your blogging journey and how to run a successful online business.

Choose A Niche

Okay so, first things first, you gotta choose a niche,

What is a niche?

In case you don’t know what a niche is, a niche is a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service. Simply put it this way, a niche is a category you will want your blog to specialize in. There are many categories you can choose from.

Many bloggers say it all depends on your passion and others say no it doesn’t, some even go to the extent of saying you can learn to be passionate about something, well I’d say it doesn’t depend on anything just go ahead and choose a really profitable niche and start making money from day one…

Well it depends (what a hypocrite), it depends really, on many factors actually but it all comes down to what you’re passionate about, what you like and yes you can learn to be passionate about something.

You have to choose wisely though because you can be passionate about niches that are hard to monetize like “flowers niche” for example and remember that our goal here is to make money from our blog and run a successful online business.

What niche? let me make this simple, read this article about a list of the most profitable blog niches to start a blog in. The top of the list has Making Money Online, Health and Fitness Niche, Lifestyle, Fashion, etc. Choose a niche that you know you will never burn out from writing articles and don’t pigeonhole your blog by choosing a micro sub-niche where you will quickly run out of topics to write about together with passion.

You can be passionate about a lot of things, am passionate about programming, games, and gadgets and recently I started liking football and that’s evidence you can learn to love something. I’d recommend you look at our list of profitable niches and pick one from there.

You must keep learning about new stuff that comes in your niche, keep upgrading your skills in that particular niche as this will become handy when doing consulting services as a way of monetizing your blog.

You chose a blog niche you’re not passionate about, don’t worry, here’s a trick :
Treat your blog as a startup and the startup as your passion. It’s that simple, go register your blog as a company if you have to. Careful of taxes though. I’d recommend an LLC.

Best Web Hosting Provider to use

So you have successfully chosen a niche, it’s time to launch your blog online with a reliable web hosting service.

What is web hosting?

Here’s a full detailed guide on what hosting really is, and how it works.

Well, there are many web hosting services most of which are good enough for a blog, We have a detailed list of the top 10 web hosting companies in our blog.

I personally recommend Hostinger as my top web hosting service it has by far the most features and it is also cheap. You might want to use some other good hosting companies such as Bluehost or SiteGround which is still okay.

Once you choose your web hosting service let’s proceed to the next step I will walk you through setting up a domain name for your website ( the name of your website like lyncteck.com )

Pick a Domain name for your website

A domain is a unique name that points to your website, It’s simply the name of your website. Choose your namely wisely, and make sure you don’t pigeonhole yourself by choosing a narrow domain name or a domain that describes a specific sub-niche for example

“emailmarketingexpert.com”

with this domain you can’t start writing about blockchain, make sure you will be able to pivot in the future especially if you’re in the tech niche, we all know that in the tech space things change every day.

I will be using Hostinger for this tutorial. I will demonstrate how you pick your domain, check its availability, process the payment, and accessing your control panel, hpanel as hostinger calls it, and its so easy to use with a really simple and friendly user interface which is good especially if you’re a beginner. Then the fun begins after installing WordPress.

Select A hosting plan

select a hosting plan

For a start, you can choose the premium shared hosting, not only is it good for a blog, but it is also super cheap for the features it provides especially if you are using Hostinger. As you can see it’s only under $3 per month. With all the features Hostinger provides, that’s a really good bang for the buck, heck it’s cheaper than your daily meal.

Payment and domain availability checker

Once you go through the checkout process, you will be redirected to the domain checker screen. Claim your free domain and go ahead and check whether the domain name you chose is available or not and once you confirm your domain let’s go ahead and install WordPress.

Picking the best theme for your blog

By now you should have noticed that your website does not have a secure connection or that google didn’t give you that padlock in your URL we are gonna fix that now.

If your hosting provider doesn’t provide you with a free SSL certificate we gonna need to manually install one.
To do that we gonna need a plugin called Really Simple SSL

  • Search for Really Simple SSL from the WordPress Library

Install a content management system (like WordPress), pick a design, compose and publish your first post, and maintain a regular posting schedule after that.
